Self-Assessment EssaySelf-Assessment Essay My experience in ENGL 21007 allowed me to learn and grow as a writer. From each assignment I was able to learn more and more to finally get to a point where I began creating pieces of writing that could be seen as great. Receiving better grades was not the only thing that made this evident, but also how I felt about my writing made me realize, that I was becoming a better writer. I started finding enjoyment in my writing and saw extreme differences with each piece that I created. Growing up I was never was good at writing. I always did well in English, but never actually found enjoyment in what I was creating in those classes. I would always write the bare minimum and never really push myself to create a piece writing that made me feel like I was capable writing well. These past two semesters I experienced a variety of different genres of writing. This variety allowed me to explore what writing genres I enjoy and what genres I find difficult or hate. But, I found when I didn’t like a genre of writing it was mostly because I am not to good at formatting my writing properly. Since, most of the assignments required MLA formatting I was able to practice and slowly perfect my formatting skills. With every assignment I strengthened my writing through proper citation, but still I did not have one assignment where the formatting was completely perfect. I always seemed to leave something out which lowered my grades substantially. I’ve always had difficulty meeting word requirements, but this semester I experienced the exact opposite. I was able to reach any writing goal that was necessary, which made my writing experience easier. Instead of using extra time to make essay’s longer I was able to incorporate that time in revising and perfecting past writing pieces. A mistake that I noticed in all of my writing pieces is not following the rubric/syllabus when writing out a piece. I seem to go into my writing too confidently and always seem to leave out crucial components. This makes my writing less then satisfactory and in terms diverges my writing from what it should be. I will address this issue by taking breaks when writing to look at the rubric/syllabus to check that my writing is still going to plan. In closing, it is clear to me that for one to grow there writing skills they must be open to every genre of writing. Whether that be a genre they hate or a genre they love, a writer must seek discomfort and adapt to a writing style that can seem unenjoyable. Writing is an art and because of that fact there is no perfect, no good, and no bad. Writing is what you make of it and the beauty within it is something that one must discoverRead more“Self-Assessment Essay”
